lyrics
I am not a phoenix
I never rose up from my bed of thorns
Stoic face
Gently laid in rags and sawdust that you never wore
Ashes to dust
Smoke evading my lungs
There's still a trace on my tongue
I think I've tasted enough
Share with me what you breath
We can escape it all from under the trees
Time to leave
In your final moments check your pocket for me
For me
Ashes to dust
Smoke evading my lungs
There's still a trace on my tongue
I think I've tasted enough
And it fades away
(Only for a minute)
Do the moments seem to wait
(Smoldering the living)
Holding for a fever break
(Floating off in ribbons)
As they slowly seem to drape over the evening sky
Ashes to dust
Smoke evading my lungs
There's still a trace on my tongue
I think I've tasted enough
Just inspiring combination of emo-jazz in its purest form. Lyrically it goes over interesting ideas of multiculturalism, parental issues and generational trauma in some of the best ways I've heard in a while. All of the instrumental sections are just beautiful and both singers are outstanding. My favorite moments are probably the almost-yelling section halfway through "I'm From Here" and the horn sections on "Quirk". PeterA
Off-kilter country songs with big, beating hearts, the music on “Sword Songs” captures hope and heartache in equal measure. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 7, 2017
